Hasn’t she learned anything from Britney Spears or Jessica Simpson? Singers just should remain singers! Avril Lavigne reportedly wants to try her hand at acting and is said to be in talks to do a movie.

The “rocker” will play the lead in a "thriller feature film…playing kind of a white-trash girl."

Do you guys think it’s right for singers to cross over into acting and vice versa? I get the entire multi-talented thing, but what happened to giving others a chance. If all celebrities continue to endorse products, become fashion designers, singers and etc. what's going to happen to the truly talented people who don’t have the advantage of having money and fame. They’re all just screwed!

i think alot of these people that cross over from one thing to another only do it for the money, and in that instance should just stick to their original craft. If you don't truly have passion for something, why do it?

It IS often annoying to see this "crossover" stuff, partly because it seems to just be a greedy cash grab. Lohan and Duff are examples of greedy starlets trying to get as much money as possible out of their young fans (and their fans' parents). But in Lavigne's case ... that might be different. Is she interested in acting or paychecks? Indie roles for the art or big-budget movies for the money? BTW, besides a voice role in Over the Hedge she also had an on-camera role in Fast Food Nation.

If they can do it successfully, why not? I sing and act. Not on their level by any means but I've been in numerous small productions (theatre) and sang in a band (in their garage but hey I sang) and do karaoke 2x a week right now. There are some that, duh, shouldn't be doing both. But then there are those that can excel in each discipline. I myself enjoy Lindsay Lohan, Hilary Duff, and Mandy Moore as both singers and actresses. I know many people do not agree with me on my thoughts there, but that is how I feel.
