Avril Lavigne and Deryck Whibley's split really didn't come as a surprise as they couple had reportedly been on the rocks for months. But what was the reason behind their split?

"She married too young and she finally realized that," a source tells People magazine.

"Avril realized she needs her own life and needs to explore things without him."

After rumors of a split hit the internet, Avril finally confirmed the breakup on her website on Thursday.

"I am grateful for our time together, and I am grateful and blessed for our remaining friendship," Lavigne wrote on her Web site.

Despite previous reports neither Avril nor Deryck were seeing anyone else, the relationship simply fell apart during the span of the last six months.
