New In Theaters: Will Avatar Win Again?

The weekend is here, which means more new movies in theaters. But we have to wonder….does any film matter as long as Avatar is still out? It’s looking to win its sixth weekend box office in a row. The last film to do that was James Cameron’s Titanic, which topped the domestic box office a record 15 consecutive weekends during the course of its 10-month theatrical run in 1997-98.

Experts are expecting Avatar to make another $25 million this weekend, bringing the film’s total up to $550 million and a worldwide tally of $1.8 billion. Titanic’s records are $600.8 million and $1.84 billion, respectively.

The competition doesn’t look that great either—The Tooth Fairy, Legion, and Extraordinary Measures are all out in theaters this weekend.

The Tooth Fairy: Tess is a 6-years-old girl who is very dissapointed when Derek (Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson) tells her that the tooth fairy isn't real. Derek is left to try and save the tooth fairy kingdom.

Legion: When God loses faith in Mankind, he sends his legion of angels to bring on the Apocalypse. Humanity's only hope lies in a group of strangers trapped in a desert diner and the Archangel Michael.

Extraordinary Measures: John Crowley (Brendan Fraser) discovers his two youngest children are diagnosed with a fatal disease. He joins forces with Dr. Robert Thornhill (Harrison Ford), a brilliant but unconventional scientist. Together the two men battle the medical and business establishments as they race against time to find a cure.

Avatar: In director James Cameron's latest sci-fi epic, a reluctant human hero fights to save the alien world he has learned to call home.

Sherlock Holmes: Robert Downey Jr. stars as the legendary London detective, investigating a mysterious nemesis who threatens all of England.

The Book of Eli:
In the not-too-distant future, across the wasteland of what once was America, a lone warrior must fight to bring civilization the knowledge that could be the key to its redemption and save the future of humanity.

The Lovely Bones: A young girl who has been murdered and watches over her family – and her killer – from heaven. She must weigh her desire for vengeance against her desire for her family to heal.
