Good news and bad news, Avatar fans! The good news is that there’s definitely going to be a part 2 and a part 3 to the franchise.
Bad news is that we’re gonna have to wait for it. Like three more years.
Director James Cameron spoke at the PGA Awards over the weekend, and said, “I am in the process of writing the next two Avatar films now. We are planning to shoot them together and post them together, and we will probably release them not quite back to back, but about a year apart.”
So just how long are fans going to have to wait? “Christmas ’14 and ’15 is the current plan,” revealed Cameron.
Ouch…now that’s a test of our patience! But seeing as though the first movie was almost three hours long, we’ll cut James some slack on his writing timeline.
“Basically, if you survived the first film, you get to be in the second film, at least in some form,” he said.
Cameron also revealed a partnership that gives his Avatar franchise new meaning.
“Fox has partnered with me to donate a chunk of the profits to environmental causes that are at the heart of the Avatar world,” says the director. “I didn’t want to make more Avatar movies without a grander plan in place.”
With that info, there’s no way anyone can get mad over the waiting time. It’ll just make the hype that much better!
