Travis McCoy Arrested On Assault

Arrests
Gym Class Heroes frontman Travis McCoy has been arrested on assault. The band was in the middle of their Warped Tour show in St. Louis when an audience member made a racist comment to McCoy. Security was already escorting the guy when McCoy started hitting the guy over the head with his microphone.

Kind of a no-no, but McCoy knew he reacted poorly, and issued this statement: "I'm sorry. But when someone calls you something that ignorant and that offensive, you have to bash their head in with a microphone."

He was released from jail this morning. As bad as it is to physically hurt someone, we can't help but see Travis' side on this one!

Security already had him and Travis attacked. Security had to hold Travis back or he would have done more. They should have let him go so that he could have gotten a felony charge. Security saved his stupid violent ass from real time.

I would have let Travis go so he could beat the shit out of that asshole. The guy deserved it! You don't go around spewing racial slurs, especially to someone's face, without expecting some consequences. I think the guy should have been beaten to a pulp even though Travis was in the wrong and should have let security get him, so was that asshole.

They were both the same race. I wonder how many times that word has come out of Travis's mouth? Typical violent reaction of someone who isn't smart enough to understand that some people are just attention seekers. The guy (Travis) is no "hero" and he got played by a crowd member; now he has to face a judge.

It doesn't matter one bit, if you were Caucasian and called a redneck as an insult, would you not get mad? What if you were half Caucasian and half African American are were called a mut, would you like it? Yes, Travis may have used the word before, but I have yet to hear him use it in an insulting way. As for the "hero" thing, I never said he was a hero, it was pretty stupid for him to assault that guy and he could even be brought up on attempted murder charges, he is one of the most stupid people to react to a racial slur. And unless you were at that concert and knew that guy was an attention seeker, why would you have such disdain towards Travis?

Clearly Travis does not deserve to be in a position where he has influence over youth. He has a responsibility to act fair or he should quit. If he messes up and falls to the taunting of some lame brained attention seeker than he proves himself weak. Simply, he should have kept his hands to himself and let the comment fall to the dirt where it belongs. He gave the credibility with his stupid and violent actions. That's the sort of thing that insecure and small people do.

Because your one to judge someone you don't know obviously. I'm not saying he's a hero and I'm not saying he should quit what he does, but why, if I may ask, are you attacking him with such force? You gave the credibility with your stupid and violent words, isn't that what small and insecure people do?

I am attacking no one. I am stating an opinion and I don't have to know the person to do so. It has been said that we are known for what we do, not just what we say. Oh, and please come up with your own words at least when you are attempting to personalize this issue. It makes you seem a bit silly in my opinion.

Lman, you should just let that be your last comment. Clearly all you're doing is trying to start shit in the comment section of a "news" site over an issue that is going to be opinionated no matter how you look at it. With the risk of falling into your feeble trap of "forum wars" or whatever you want to call it, I do not believe for a second that Travis enjoys violence. To me, it's apparent that he was both regretful and sorry for his actions yet he decided the best thing to do would be to finish the set to make the fans happy. I believe he is a devoted performer and feels terrible for his actions even though he didn't ask to be thrown into his position as a role model for young people; it just happened as a result of his talent and love for music. Also, I would like to say that security did not already have the "victim" when Travis hit him with the mic. He was just trying to get up in Travis' face to "ruffle his feathers" as my grandma would say. I was a few people away and saw it all very vividly so I know this to be a FACT. As this will be my only post because I have better things to do than fight over a message board, I would like to say that Travis is only human. He slipped up, no one here is disputing that, but you're trying to make him out to be some sort of a fallen angel when all he's doing is trying to live his life and make a career out of what he loves. Save yourself the trouble and just stop.

This will be my last post. However I would be remiss if I did not point out that you are incorrect about security having possession of the heckler/attention seeker/victim. Your fact is not a fact but a fabrication designed to support your point the reality is that Travis struck a man while he was in custody; Travis admitted as much. Travis did not simply "fall" into the position of role model for it is clear to anyone seeking stardom that they have those responsibilities. I find your comments absurd, which is entirely my opinion.

Lady lyric
To lman and everyone else, i cant say i support travis's actions but if i were put in the same situation were all of a sudden i'm in the lime light and a person tried to call me out i cant say i would not be tempted to do the same thing. This has nothing to do with ignorance just human instinct we instinctively seek power and protection he snapped and did what felt natural to do. in any case anyone who is a true fan of travis(since the start before cupids choke hold and gch's rise to mtv fame) can tell you by simply listening to his lyrics that the boy is not dumb. further more as an artist myself i find it disturbing and sad that you (lman) think as an artist one has a responsibility to guide our youth and be a role model If you were as smart as you think you are then you would know people are born artists its what they love and what they were meant to do (fate) you do it for your self not for anyone else these people are human and they hold no responsibility what so ever to influence our youth in either a positive or negative way, that responsibility should be held by the child's parent who i might add should try not to sit their kid in front of the tv so that mtv can raise them but even if that is a parents choice kids need to catch up my mom sat me in front of the tube and no one did i try to imitate any thing i saw I turned out fine i never once wanted to or tryed to be someone i saw on tv cause it was cool or any other reason so if there kid is dumb thats on them i think we try to make celebrities out to be godly figuers which they are not they are just like us and deserve respect for putting their lives out there the way they do so i commend travis for not jumping of stage and beating him down freshman friday style cause any normal person after pushed over and over again would have......
