Arnold Vetoes Kanye's Bill

Arnold Schwarzenegger has vetoed a bill that was written shortly after the death of Kanye West's mother Donda after she went in for a routine cosmetic surgery.

The cosmetic surgery bill, AB 2968, by Assemblywoman Wilmer Amina Carter, would make it a requirement for people to undergo a physical examination, give a complete medical history, and also get a doctor's clearance before getting any plastic surgery done. That's exactly what didn't happen in Donda's case.

Arnold deemed the bill not important enough to deal with at the moment, which we can't really fault him for. With the terrible state of the economy, there's a couple things higher on the priority list that need to be dealt with. But this is definitely a bill that should be passed sooner rather than later. Especially in California, where 5 out of 10 people you meet have had plastic surgery of some sort.

The safety of men and women undergoing cosmetic procedures is a very important issue. I am a member of the team behind RealSelf.com where we have seen by our users' experiences how important patient safety and education really is. I'm glad to see that others commenting here agree on the importance of the health and safety of cosmetic surgery patients.
