Cancel the dress fittings! Cancel the cake! Cancel the…whatever else you do when planning a wedding.
Aretha Franklin has called off her summer wedding to William ‘Willie’ Wilkerson, saying things have started to move a “little too fast” in their relationship.
A statement from Franklin reads:
“Regretfully, To Our Friends and Supporters: Will and I have decided we were moving a little too fast, and there were a number of things that had not been thought through thoroughly. There will be no wedding at this time. We will not comment on it any further because of the very personal and sensitive nature of it. We appreciate all of the many well wishes from friends.”
Summer is a long time from now, and she’s known this man for years, so I’m not sure what “too fast” constitutes. But if Kristin Cavallari/Jay Cutler's and Jessica Simpson/Eric Johnson’s cancelled engagements are any indication, this means one thing: Aretha Franklin is pregnant. I’ll go ahead and prep tomorrow’s story.
The 69 year-old singer is very secretive about her private life (how dare her) and she announced her engagement to William in January, saying that they planned to tie the knot on a yacht in Florida around June or July.
Earlier this month, Franklin joked: “No, I’m not pregnant.”
Yeah, yeah, Jessica said the same thing.
The two became engaged over the holidays, just like a slew of other celebs. She was considering Vera Wang, Valentino and Donna Karan as designers for her wedding dress. It would’ve been Aretha’s third wedding.
Back in 2010, it was rumored that Franklin was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, but she denied the reports. She did undergo an unidentified surgery but would not comment on what it was.
“It’s really not necessary to talk about one’s personal medical health,” Aretha said.
