Anne Hathaway is happily engaged to actor Adam Shulman, but did you know she was almost engaged to her ex, Raffaello Follieri? Remember him, the ex-boyfriend that went to prison for money laundering.
In an interview with People, Raffaello Follieri, now a free man after nearly four years, said that he and Anne were basically pre-engaged.
“We were talking about marriage,” says Follieri, “I was very much in love with her.”
I wonder why they broke-up? Oh yeah, the whole “going to prison” thing. Anne Hathaway ain't no prison wife!
What the tabloids have led us to believe is that when Follieri pleaded guilty to 14 counts of wire fraud, conspiracy and money laundering it abruptly ended his and Hathaway’s relationship.
“I thought my life was over,” Follieri said of entering prison, “But I learned to survive by focusing on getting through one day at a time.”
In case you aren’t familiar, Follieri was arrested on fraud charges after stealing millions from investors in a scheme in which he posed as the Vatican’s realtor.
Hathaway had her diaries confiscated by the FBI and had to return jewelry that Follieri had given her as gifts.
Well, when one door closes, another one opens.
Anne met the real love of her life, Adam Shulman. The couple became engaged in November 2011, no word yet on when the wedding is.
