We all know Anna Nicole Smith was obsessed with Marilyn Monroe but was she desperate to play her icon? According to the New York Daily News, Anna offered to finance a film about the life of Monroe's one-time husband Joe DiMaggio. But "DiMaggio: Setting the Record Straight" author Marv Schneider says Smith was turned down.
"She offered to at least partially finance it, about six months before she died," Schneider revealed. "The screenplay was finished in the summer."
But Schneider revealed Anna wasn't fit for the role. "It was rejected out of hand. She wasn't considered ready," he said at Zocalo restaurant. "Also, if she got the role, we thought we'd have a tough time getting a top actor to play DiMaggio." Schneider also pointed out that Smith died at Florida's Memorial Regional Hospital, which has a children's wing named after DiMaggio.
