Lifetime is about to get a serious ratings boost...
On the heels of the high profile production of Lindsay Lohan’s “Liz & Dick,” the network is set to revive yet another Hollywood icon. The Anna Nicole Story is officially happening with Agnes Bruckner cast as the starring role.
According to Deadline.com, the project is officially a go with Bruckner to embody the late Playmate.
In case you’re not familiar with the actress’ resume, Bruckner is well versed in the Liftime realm, having starred in “The Craigslist Killer.” She has also appear in television series “24” and the spin-tingling horror film The Woods.
"I'm so excited to be playing such a beautiful & complex woman," Agnes tells Hollyscoop exclusively. "This role will definitely be a challenge for me but I look forward to it. To be able to work with director Mary Harron, Virginia Madsen and Martin Landau is an honor. I know this will be an amazing experience!"
Joining Bruckner on the cast is a couple of Oscar-nodded individuals...
Martin Landau, who earned an Academy Award for Ed Wood, will play oil tycoon and Smith’s 89-year-old husband, J. Howard Marshall. Virginia Madsen, Oscar-nominated for Sideways, will play Smith’s mom.
First Lindsay Lohan, now decorated actors… Is Lifetime the new Sundance?
The story will follow the real-life journey of Vickie Lynn Hogan, who reinvents herself into “Anna Nicole Smith” from a small town girl in an effort to get noticed.
Smith married Marshall at 26 years old, a year before he died. The age gap raised eyebrows and sparked a decade-long legal battle with Marshall’s son.
The Playmate tragically died in 2007 of a drug overdose at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel in Hollywood, Florida.
American Psycho’s Mary Harron is slated to direct The Anna Nicole Story. The screenplay was scribed by John Rice and Joe Batteer.
