There's a new Jolie adoption scandal every week. A few weeks ago there were reports that Zahara's biological mother wanted her back, then her grandmother apparently said that her real mother was dead and the father missing, then they said the mother was alive and the grandmother was mistaken. Finally, Zahara's mother is coming forward and speaking to the press about all these reports.
Zahara's biological mother Mentwabe Dawit told Reuters that Zahara was conceived after she was raped. She was attacked in 2004 after walking home from work late at night in the southern Ethiopian town of Awasa.
"He pulled a dagger, put one hand on my mouth, so that I could not scream. He then raped me and disappeared," she said.
Dawit was unable to feed Zahara and the baby "became malnourished and was even unable to cry," Dawit told Reuters. "I was desperate and decided to run away, rather than see my child dying."
Dawit put to rest all the rumors about her wanting her daughter back. She said, "I have never disputed the adoption of my baby by Angelina Jolie," she said.
"I think my daughter is a very fortunate human being to be adopted by a world famous lady. I wish them both all the success they deserve."
