Civil Rights Groups Blast Angelina Jolie for "Blacking Up"?

As you all know Angelina Jolie is currently in India filming "A Mighty Heart" for Brad Pitt's film production company Plan B.

Jolie--who has taken on the role of mixed race heroine Mariane Pearl--is causing an uproar among Civil Rights activists. The campaigners condemned the Hollywood beauty for "blacking up" to play a mixed-race mum.

Angelina who will appear with dramatically darker skin in the real-life kidnap movie has become a target for Black rights groups--they have blasted the film-makers for picking the very white Angelina.

Blogger www.blacklooks.org said: "This is just another example of the whitewashing of history."

Meanwhile, the real Mrs Pearl, a French freelance reporter, said: "I’m delighted Angelina Jolie will be playing my role. I deeply admire her work."

Meanwhile Angelina is busy catching up on her latest book “Crimes of War: What the Public Should Know” by Roy Gutman. Angelina was spotted reading this book earlier today on her way to the set. We are positive this book will sell now that all the fanatics have seen her reading it.

They couldnt get that chick from Beloved and Crash to play this part? I mean....yeah....they could get a black actor 2 do it...but...Is it really something 2 cry about? people are that bored? And Ms. Pearl looks Lighter than Angie does with all the make up on. LOL

Mariane Pearl describes herself in her book as being multiracial. Her father is caucasian. Her mother was a multiracial Cuban which included Chinese, Causasian and African descent. That's definitely not 100% black to me. In fact, she is more caucasian than anything else.

Everyone calm down!!! I'm an african american woman and i have no problem with angie playing the role of mrs. pearl. what the civil rights groups need to realize is that they are giving the movie more press. if mrs. pearl doesn't care, i don't see why we should!

Mariane Pearl is not black. Like Amanda said, she is multiracial and if you look at the picture, Angie pretty much looks like her. People tan!
