Angelina Jolie Opens All Girls’ School in Afghanistan

The Mr. & Mrs. Smith actress is continuing her selfless streak.

It is being reported that Angelina Jolie has opened an all girls’ primary school just outside Kabul, Afghanistan. The action will give young women the opportunity to learn in a region that normally favors boys’ education over that of girls’. It also makes that seven-mile run you accomplished this weekend a little less significant, huh?

E! News reports that Jolie, who is currently serving as the UNHCR Goodwill ambassador, picked the spot, currently rebuilding post-Taliban regime, due to its high refugee population.

The school will be able to accommodate 200 to 300 girls and will serve as the prototype for many more Angelina schools to come.

Funds for the endeavor are reportedly coming from Jolie’s personal jewelry line, Style of Jolie. The line, which the actress designed with Robert Procop, will be sold at Tivol, a Kansas City-based retailer, starting Wednesday.

All of the jewelry profits will be dedicated to the education foundation project, dubbed The Education Partnership for Children of Conflict.

“Beyond enjoying the artistic satisfaction of designing these jewels,” she said, “we are inspired by knowing our work is also serving the mutual goal of providing for children in need."
