Angelina Jolie Is Not Mother Teresa

Many call Angelina Jolie the Mother Teresa of Hollywood but Jolie says that she hates that label. Jolie has been using her celebrity status to help less privileged countries for years now and she insists that she does not want the publicity for her charity work.

She says, "I don't want to act like the Mother Teresa of Hollywood. I quite simply want to help where there is poverty and destitution. Am I the only one who thinks and acts like that?

"It became clear to me I was an incredibly privileged Hollywood star and I had to so something against the screaming injustice on this planet."

,ost of her contributions are not splashed on the front pages - she contributes enormous sums of money - waaaaaaay neyond what her accountant would reccommend - so those who claim she ought to do it privatley - she does - but she is a very famous person - its a little hard to keep it all under wraps - and besides - her fame is what makes it possible for her to do what she does at the level she does - so unless YOU have been doing something to help others maybe its time to shut up

Gee. I don't know maybe Angelina could donate some of her millions to a charity who is ACTUALLY trying to help and doing something about it-ya know? like UNICEF. I'm sure those starving people would prefer some food as opposed to a picture with AJ.

She only wants to help where there's poverty and injustice? Aren't the libs, including the Hollywood ones especially, always telling us about how terrible our own country is in those respects? Why not start here if this place is sooo bad?

I think Angelina Jolie works really hard against injustice. I think the example from the Red Cross is probably true: but I also believe Angelina is heavily scrutinized for any misstep. I think that the press is really hard on her, because she's forever associated as being a "homewrecker." Of course, it's not right to get involved with a married man, but that was 2 years ago: and practically ever week for the past two years: she's on the cover of some tabloid. She does give a 1/3 of her income to charity, and spends a lot of time doing U.N. work: but no she's not perfect, and like all people: she may have mixed motives (including the publicity) as well as genuine intentions towards social justice. But I think dismissing her considerable efforts thus far, based on different incidents: rather than giving a balanced portrayal of what she's done for issues of poverty as a whole may be somewhat unfair. She's not a saint, she did get involved with a married man, the incident with the Red Cross is probably true: but she's also done a lot of good work. So she's complicated, not perfect, not to be idolized, but not always treated fairly for her contributions either.

Its not that so many "feel threatened" by her its just that so many are disgusted by her. I doubt that those who disapprove of Angelina feel "inferior" but feel "superior" instead. New Orleans Saint? I empathize with your plight and wish you all well. Maybe someone should recognize the celebrities who really ARE trying to make a difference rather than scam a Photo-Op. I agree that Angelina Jolie should be ashamed of herself.

Here is why almost everyone knows she is out for publicity. I work in the Red Cross HDQ in New Orleans. We have contacted Angelina through her agent multiple times to try to schedule an time when she could come down to the shelters and lend her support to the many homeless who are desperately attempting to rebuild their lives and homes. Each time we inquired about an appearance, the agent asked in response if there would be press coverage. Finally after Angelina declined several times and we persisted, we were told point blank that Angleina was not interested in appearing unless there would press availbel for a photo opportunity and publicity shot. The only advice they could give us in regards to creating an interest that Angelina would particpate in would be to secure a photo op either through the local press or a major publication other than that they stated "Angelina would have no divulged interest in a visit." For someone so interested in saving the world its a crying shame she will only do so when there are cameras around. She is maliciously insincere and most of us at NORC feel she is using the plight of the world as a publicity scam. Shame on her.

Why are people so insecure about Angelina Jolie. I have never seen Angelina talk about all the charity work she does outside of a few large charities that need others helps. I know her mom involved her children in charity work from a young age. It has been my experience that the entertainment community have been very supportive of helping other people and involved in a multitude of charity organizations.
