Angelina Jolie Calls for an End to Darfur Crisis

Angelina Jolie is calling for an end to the crisis in Darfur. She has just written an article for Time magazine, detailing the terrible things occurring in the area.

The article states, "The evidence the prosecutor has presented is clear and compelling.” She continues that "millions of people have been displaced" and "hundreds of thousands have been killed."

Angelina also says nothing has changed in Darfur since her first visit to the region in 2004. And despite the Bush administration calling the problem “genocide,” we still have not intervened.

Today the members of the United Nations Security Council will be presented with the results of the Darfur investigation. They will have to determine whether to emplace an international standard of justice that holds people accountable for crimes anywhere in the world.

Angie writes: "Darfur has almost disappeared from the news, and experts now call it a 'low intensity" conflict.' But the intensity of the crisis has not lessened for those who are struggling to survive."

"More than 250,000 people from Darfur have lived destitute lives in refugee camps in Chad for six years now," says the mother of six. "Camps with more than two million internally displaced persons inside Darfur are even worse. Thirty percent of those displaced are school-age children. Girls leaving the camps are raped; boys leaving the camps are killed. They want an education; they want to go back to their villages, to their land; they want peace. But they also want justice."

This is obviously an issue that cannot be ignored forever. We hope the UN makes the right decision. Click here for the whole article.

Charity begins at home!! They should NOT be entitled to tax write-offs for giving $$ to OTHER countries, when OUR country is in such turmoil. No offense to these other countries, but maybe it's time they help themselves, as we should.
