Andy Samberg. biography
Born David Andrew Samberg on August 18, 1978, Mill Valley, California, Andy Samberg began exploring his comedic chops through improvised comedy sketches alongside his best friends Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone while attending Willard Junior High School.
After graduating from New York University with a film degree in 2000, Andy rejoined forces with his junior high school buddies in Los Angeles and established the trio comedy troupe "The Lonely Island." They began forming digital shorts, gaining a huge following on the web for their popular sketches "Regarding Andy," "Awesometown" and "White Power," which led to them writing for the MTV Movie Awards in 2005.
Jimmy Fallon, who was the host that year, was immediately attracted to their style of humor and set up a meet-and-greet with Saturday Night Live head honcho Lorne Michaels. While his buddies stayed behind the scenes as writers, Andy made his SNL debut as a featured player in his digital short "Lazy Sunday" alongside Chris Parnell.
Andy soon found nationwide recognition when he starred opposite Justin Timberlake in the hit duet short "Dick in a Box," which earned the two the 2007 Creative Arts Emmy Award for Outstanding Original Music.
The rising comedian went on to earn a Grammy nomination for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration at the 52nd Grammy Awards on the account of his joint effort with T-Pain on "I'm on a Boat," after its music video garnished 56 million hits on YouTube.
After seven successful years on SNL, Andy announced his departure from the show on June 1, 2012.
Aside from SNL, Andy made his starring role debut in the comedy Hot Rod (2007) prior to appearing in the TV series Arrested Development (2005).
