It wasn't hard for us to think that Amy Winehouse was just a drugged up, drunken mess. After all, she had her share of problems with drug addiction, and only recently stumbled and mumbled through a concert to a bunch of booing fans.
But to friends and family, that wasn't the Amy they knew. Even during her final days, Amy's dad says the singer was "happier than she's ever been." Sources say Amy spent her final days in the low-key environment of her London home. She visited her mother. She had a doctor stop by for a appointment.
"She spent most days at home writing," says a friend.
Sarah Hurley, landlady of the Good Mixer, one of Winehouse's favorite pubs, tells PEOPLE, "Amy was a sparkly character."
Amy's father, Mitch, said his goodbyes to her at her funeral on Tuesday.
"Goodnight, my angel, sleep tight. Mummy and Daddy love you ever so much."
During his speech during her funeral, Mr. Winehouse claimed that Amy had conquered her drug addiction, recently completing three weeks of sbsitence. He also added that she was on a mission to stop drinking because she hated the effect it had on her family.
According to her father, Amy told him, "Dad, I've had enough of drinking—I can't stand the look and your and the family's faces anymore."
