Despite his previous enthusiasm to try to lock down the “Hero” singer for “The X Factor,” Simon has some reservations now that she’s signed to his former show. Go figure…
According to Entertainment Weekly, Cowell spoke on the matter via satellite at a Beverly Hills panel while stationed in Miami for “The X Factor” boot camp auditions.
“I think she’s going to find it difficult to say ‘no’ [to contestants],” Cowell said.
He kept it civil, adding, “She’s sweet … I think she’s going to be great.”
On the same panel, Cowell described his choice of Britney in an opposite light, obviously… Though he did, however, add a very Simon-style backhanded touch, calling her “a brat” and “quite mean.”
Cowell and Mariah go way back as friends.
Prior to the first season of “The X Factor,” it was rumored that Mariah would join Cowell on his new show. He previously told reporters that her talents could add innovation to live television.
“I think Mariah will have a role on the TV live shows,” he said. “I met her recently and she was on great form. And her idea was to be the judge of the judges, which only Mariah could come up with.”
No word yet on who will be joining Mariah and Randy as judges for season 12 of “Idol.”
“The X Factor,” on the other hand has a full lineup and is currently finishing up its auditions. The new season premieres this fall on FOX.
