Jordin Sparks' Virgin Vow

American Idol

Late 'American Idol' winner Jordin Sparks made herself a promise to stay a virgin until she gets married. She promises to remain pure because of the promise she made to her parents when she was 13.

She explains, "My parents gave me a purity ring and talked to me about waiting until I'm married to have sex. It wasn't forced; it just made perfect sense. It's going to be awesome to say to my husband that I waited my whole life for him."

That’s cute of Jordin, but do you guys remember the days Britney Spears was a so-called ‘virgin,’ then she went off and cheated on Justin with her dancer. Let’s hope Hollywood doesn’t suck Jordin in and change her pure attitude.

She sure has a good head on her shoulders. A nice, pretty head that will look so sexy when .... Seriously, all this sexual repression in the name of religion is sad.

saving herself for after she's married is commendable, but realistically how will her wedding night be? she'll not know what pleases her or her new husband. she'll just be laying there, and then say either to herself, or outloud... "DAMN THAT HURTS!!!" hopefully she's watched some porn to know what goes where.

You guys are totally missing the point! It's easy to give into temptations and become a whore. The point is that sex is actually pretty sacred to some people. Of course, to others, it's just pure recreation. Whatever feels good, right? I think it's cute that she's taken a vow. Now let's see how long it will take her to throw it out the window...

I commend the young lady for her faith, endurance, and being a role model for theses young fast chicks out here in the world...The world does not have any moral values anymore.

Sexual intercourse is sacred and shouldn't be entered into so casually. However, one needs to be sexually compatible with their partner; therefore Jordin, just like with cars you gotta take at least one test drive. Sweety, you need to know what you're dealing with before you make a permanent decision. Just don't go Paris on us!

Amen, Ariel! I completely agree. We need to build stronger values and morals for ourselves. We need to value our bodies as well as our souls, if not to protect ourselves from diseases, then at least from selling ourselves short.

I will be there until some rapper or R&B dude lift the draws dawg (think tommy from Martin) LOL

I don't think she cares if you understand it or accept it. It's her life and if she wants to have righteous standards, God bless her. Many of the problems in relationships today stem from loose morals and giving it up to anyone for the heck of it.

She can make it to her wedding night, if it's what she really wants. I did, and I got married at 25. And let me tell you, our wedding night was AMAZING. Way better than most of the stories I've heard from girls who've lost their virginity early to some punk who doesn't really care about them, in the backseat of a car or a stolen bed. All the things they say "won't" happen the first time - like multiple orgasms, complete comfort, unbridled joy, etc. - well, let's just say - "they" were wrong. And yeah, it wasn't just me that was a virgin, it was my husband too. You don't have to have sex to know you're sexually compatible - my husband and I were virgins (and yes that meant no oral or other sexual activity), but we kissed and "made out" if you want to call it that, and we talked about sex a lot. We knew we were going to have a great time after we got married and we have. We've been married a year and we still have sex virtually every day. The passion is there. The anticipation builds something that you can never experience if you give it early in a relationship. So I say, Go Jordin! She's saving herself from a lot of heartache and distraction by saving something so sacred and beautiful for the kind of relationship that's ready to say "I do" to forever. It's a beautiful thing.

Oh please, how many people will declare they are going to wait. I think that is BS. and if you are going to wait, must you tell the world? What the hell do I care if she is going to wait. It is just a plublicity stunt to get more youth fans.BS

Who the fuck cares... JOrdin ur soo hot.

Jordin did not volunteer the information. She was asked about the ring she had on her left hand during an interview. I say God Bless her. In a world were the young are having sex so very young just because everyone else is doing it, and loosing so much it's nice to see someone who's taking a different path. It's like my mother always said to me you are young for such a short time enjoy it while you can. There will be plenty of time for sex.

THANK YOU KAREN!! I've been trying to say that for a while now. I mean, c'mon, it's not like it was outta the blue. They asked her, she decided to be polite like she always is, she answered the question, nothin' wrong with that. Whaddya think is so bloody personal about a b;loody purity ring?

When I was with my girlfriend, we were very close to having sex, but thank God we didn't, because she was NOT the right girl for me. Yes, I am still a virgin, and I plan on being one until the right girl comes into my life. The question on my mind: how will I know who the right girl is?

Oops, I messed up there, sorry.
Posted by: Anthony on 06/30/2008 03:09 PM

I just meant to say I agree with Lori and the other people who had positive things to say about wating for sex. Sex is meant to be a bond between two loving people who care deeply for each other. The world has gone into moral decline, and it is very sad that so many young people these days no longer value sex and relationships.
