There will be no hero’s homecoming for Hollie Cavanagh on next week’s ‘American Idol’. The 18-year-old British-Texan was cut Thursday night after nearly 70 million votes were cast, keeping Joshua Ledet, Jessica Sanchez, and Phillip Phillips in the Top 3.
Cavanagh had originally auditioned for season 10 but didn't make it through to the Top 24. For her farewell song, she sang Miley Cyrus’ “The Climb.”
"Being on the show has given me confidence, and I believe so much more in myself," she explained in her farewell video. "It's perfect."
Cavanagh later tweeted to her fans: “To all my holliepops you guys are the most amazing fans in the world. I am so blessed to have you and i cant wait for what the future holds.”
Phillips tweeted thanks to his fans for their votes, as well as support for Hollie: “@CavanaghAI11 your such a sweet heart and amazing singer. Dont let this upset u bc ur career is just starting!”
Sanchez also took to Twitter after the show, writing: “Thank you guys so much! Its an honor to be in the Top 3! Just hit 300k followers :) love you
Jennifer Lopez, 42, sang her new hit, “Dance Again,” with backup dancers, including her 24-year-old boyfriend, Casper Smart. As the song ended and gold confetti rained, Smart played with her hair, prompting the singer to remark, "so cute."
During the commercial break, Lopez’s twins, Max and Emme, stole the show at the judge’s table, E! News reported, as the superstar held one on each hip.
With a show like Idol, anything can happen in the next two weeks. "This year, I haven't got a clue who's gonna get into the final," Jimmy said.
Next week, the Top 3 will be making their “Hometown Hero” visits. Only one can be this season’s winner.
