American Idol has been losing steam this year, so it’s no surprise the show is facing major cuts for next season. Fox has just announced their lineup for next year, and Idol is getting compressed significantly.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Fox is shortening the Tuesday performance day shows to 90 minutes, and shrinking Wednesday’s results show days down to just 30 minutes!
"We looked at some of the feedback and viewers want us to tighten up the show," Fox entertainment president Kevin Reilly said. "And we need spots for our new half-hour comedies, which are a big part of our development this year."
Another huge change to the show is the replacing of Simon Cowell. "There's no bigger question for the summer," Reilly said. "We have to find a judge to replace Simon that has music credibility and provides incredible entertainment value."
Another show facing changes is Glee. But these are changes we’re happy about! The hit will return in September, and run through December, and come back after the Super Bowl. Reilly said, "The Super Bowl is so big there are many shows that are not the most compatible that still [benefit] from such a wide audience. Grey's Anatomy wasn't the perfect fit a few years back and that worked out well."
We agree! Look forward to seeing Glee at 8PM now instead of 9!
