Scoop From Oscar Producers on This Year's Show

Now that Oscar nominations have been released, we can look forward to the upcoming show! There are a lot of “firsts” when it comes to this year’s event, including the Academy upping the number of nominees in the Best Picture category from 5 to 10, and that there’s two hosts this year!

Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin will be sharing the stage at the Kodak Theater on March 7th, and Hollyscoop talked to Oscars producers Adam Shankman and Bill Mechanic about what we can expect from the two funny men.

“Funny, funny,” Shankman told us at the Oscar nominations this morning at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills. “Funny and smart.”

Bill Mechanic chimed in, “From the first time we got together our aim was to make the show more fun. Make it funnier make comedy be a characteristic. That is why since the first time we got together we talked about having two hosts. These guys are great and different people, great energy.”

When we asked them about the rumor that there would be three hosts instead of two at the Oscars, they were quick to shoot down the rumor. “That is the power of the Internet. Things get put in without fact checking,” said Mechanic.

But just to make sure they weren’t hiding any tricks up their sleeves, we had to see if they faltered when we asked if Tina Fey or Neil Patrick Harris were possible secret hosts. Bill said, “No, no, no seriously. That is just some bad information. I actually tracked it, I got some calls and he got a call. I got a call from the Academy asking, ‘What the heck are you doing.’”

But Adam and Bill did have a little fun with Neil Patrick, who at one point, thought he actually was hosting! Adam told Hollyscoop, “Neil emailed me and asked me, ‘What the hell is going on? Why am I hosting the show?’ So I emailed him back,
‘Aren’t you?’ he wrote back, ‘For God’s sake what’s going on?’ So I told him, ‘I’m kidding!’”

Tina Fey may not be hosting, but she is apparently going to be a part of the Oscars in some way shape or form, though the producers refused to give us the full scoop. They did manage to take a few writers from Saturday Night Live, with whom Tina used to work.

And the big question on everyone’s mind right now is whether or not Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt will be in attendance. “How would we know?” replied Shankman. “I would love to see them there, they are definitely fan favorites. They both turn in such great work every year but we don’t have them confirmed.”

Guess we’ll just have to wait and find out! Brangelina has been a no-show this whole award show season so it would be nice to see them make an appearance and squash those split rumors!
