Here comes Honey Boo Boo…right onto Barbara Walters annual “Most Fascinating People” list.
It appears the TLC network’s breadwinner and Adam Levine’s #1 arch nemesis, 7-year-old Alana Thompson, just hair-flipped her way right into Barbara’s heart and now the ABC News veteran is all goo goo gah gah for Honey Boo Boo.
The expectedly polarizing decision now has the ABC News veteran defending her choice. “Honey Boo Boo is not an obnoxious little girl,” the famed interviewer told Us Weekly.
“A lot of people will say, ‘For heaven’s sake, this is ridiculous, this is a child at 5 or 6 years old entering beauty contests. But the relationship between Alana and her mother, that’s the story, the two of them. It’s very touching.”
I don’t know why people are freaking out over Honey Boo Boo’s inclusion on this annual Top 10 Most Fascinating People List. It’s a list Barbara Walters puts together in her sleep every year, not the Nobel Peace Prize.
Personally, I’m more offended that One Direction is being considered “fascinating” if anything. At least Honey Boo Boo has a semblance of an edge—the cultural conversation that’s revolving around her and her family, the norms they’re challenging, the line between “reality” TV and exploitation is fascinating. Office water cooler talk after a new “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo” episode every week and what it reveals about your co-workers is what’s FASCINATING.
The TV icon and TV icon-in-the-making are set to square off on Barbara’s “fascinating” special on ABC next Wednesday, December 12 at 9:30pm. In line with the annual tradition, Barbara will also reveal her No. 1 most “fascinating” person of the year. Previous years have included honorees from Nelson Mandela to Paris Hilton, so it’s a real wild card.
