Akon has been in the news for the past few weeks because of the controversy surrounding his concert in Trinidad. Akon was videotaped humping a 14-year old girl on stage. The rapper has decided to address the issue by releasing a statement to TMZ .

"First, and most important to me, I want to sincerely apologize for the embarrassment and any pain I've caused to the young woman who joined me on-stage, her family and the Trinidad community for the events at my concert in Port of Spain on April 12th.

It was never my intention to embarrass or take advantage of my fans in any way, especially those under the age of 18. That is why we tried to make sure that the club did not admit anyone under 18 in the audience. Somehow, that standard was not met.

Again, I apologize to those concerned and to all my fans and I pledge to all that we will strive to make sure this type of incident does not happen again."

I am a Mother of two boys ages 11 and 14. We watch the top countdown together and have loved listening to the talent of Akon. There is no doubt about it Akon, your songs and voice are wonderful but after seeing what you do to women on stage, there is absolutely no way that we will buy, listen to or watch any video or show that features you. Sometimes appologies are not enough. I try to raise my boys to be respectful of all people in this world--no matter race, color, gender, religious background. Your actions showed me that you have no respect for women and you are OK with treating them as things to be used by you whenever you so desire. I read a statement that is apparently something you released apologizing for your actions. If this apology was written by your people to try to address your actions, I strongly advise that you purchase the services of a new script writer. "It was never my intention to embarrass or take advantage of my fans....especially those under the age of 18." You don't get it. What outraged your fans was not that you humped a girl under the age of 18 or that the club admitted people to your show who were under 18 years of age. The problem is that you displayed a part of your soul on that stage. You displayed your blatent disrespect for half of the population of the world. The only time I feel that you may truly get what you did is perhaps some day when you have a teenage daughter of your own who you love, respect and want nothing but the best for.....and instead you get to see your baby being humped on stage by a fully grown man. Until then I wish you well but you have seen the last of our family.

I am a single mother of a twelve year old and this child is only two years older with a father as a priest. First of all the blame needs to be addressed to the proper person the parents. Why would this child be dressing like this in the pitcure and in a nightclub with a fake ID? The blame should also be pointed at this club. In the courts, a just court that is, Akon could not be held liable. Lets look at the facts. 1. Akon is on stage, an entertainer, he call form a sea of faces in the semi-darkness for someone to come and tango with him. someone responded. 2. the respondent is not an 18 years old, neither is she a 50 years old, she is a 14 years old. 3. Akon is responding audience vibe and is not pearing at features to discover hidden milk around lips. The question is at this point did he draw her out of the crowd or did she respond to the call willingly. Let us assume that we have some sense and that we are not jealous and unbiased. How could Akon be blamed. Lets continue at this point the persons following must be sensible; if not stop now. 4. The questions of apology is neither here nor there because he need not have. The fact that he took the blame shows his love and respect for his fans and his family. How could the club, greedy for money, be expected to be scrutinizing IDs reflecting an particular age. 5. The little miss based on her performance shows some real experience; one that had Akon proving perhaps that she should not outdo him in this contest. She seemed to have won hands donw. 6. As a 14 years old, her skill at pretense needs serious attention and investigation. Faked ID, dressed as a pros, tatoo, going out at such hours. Clearly this is not the behaviour of a chaste, inexperiend girl. 7. Her godly father needs to look at himself carefully. He appears to be displaying some serious double standards that had God exposing him. Postulating to the congregation on sundays and spoiling his daughter the rest of the week. Shame on you parents. My daughter would know better than to think of pulling that prank and I am not a pastor. Finally, anyone who blames Akon, wants to for reasons best know to themselves; it could be racial as michelle malkin a woman disturbed by being asian and married not to a white man, as she would want to, but a Jew, would do, or jealousy of his fame, women wanting to have had the chance to get up on him too would be jealous, whether they are mothers or not; or it could be pure lack of understanding and reasoning. Sit down and reason rationally again. It cannot be Akon's fault or the Club's fault. Akon did not pull the girl from the crowd, he, as an entertainer did what entertainers do, he invited and go the fastest response. The club cannot be blamed - they did their check, she produced a fake ID. The parents and the girl should be blamed, with the parents being made to be held accountable. If she is allowed to get away with this, when she grows older one can just imagine what she will do and blame on others. I am the mother of a 17 years old girl. Thank you.

I think principaly the fault is on the parents, how couldn't they notice where her little girl was going, and how she was dressed. She had a tatto, she was dressed like a whore literally, she was dancing like one, i don't know how she did it, she has problems, she also sneak into a club and she is under age, she was knowing what she was doing, there's no excuse for that. I think Akon is a great singer, she is talented, but what he did was part wrong, not for humbling that girl it was because he humble in front of everyone that is his part of the blame no more not less.
