When celebrities get into trouble while they’re in the spotlight, the world finds out about it fast. Whether it’s for a DUI or drug arrest, we’re all too familiar with the mug shots of Hugh Grant, Lindsay Lohan, and Mel Gibson.
But what about celebs that cleaned up their acts before they got famous? There are some stars who got in big trouble during their school days—and you might be surprised who they are. Instead of becoming lifelong troublemakers, these stars cleaned up their acts and made more flattering names for themselves. Here are seven celebrities who used to be troublemakers.
Robert Pattinson: The Twilight star was expelled from school at the age of 12. And sorry, Twi-hards, it wasn’t for anything dangerously badass. It was for sheer laziness.
“I got expelled from my school when I was 12 – I was quite bad. I never ever did my homework,” Pattinson said. “I always turned up for lessons as I liked my teachers but my report said I didn’t try very hard.”
Ryan Gosling: And here’s your troubled bad boy. Gosling says he was bullied as a kid and had “no pals.”
“I hated being a kid. I didn't like being told what to do, I didn't like my body, I didn't like any of it. Being a kid and playing and all that stuff just drove me nuts."
So he retaliated by bringing steak knives to elementary school and throwing them at the other children. He was suspended, of course. After that, he was diagnosed with ADHD and placed in a special needs class. Eventually, his mom had to quit her job and home school Ryan.
What a troubled past. How hot does it make him now, though, amiright?
Adele: Adele was such a huge fan of Gareth Gates—a contestant on a British talent show—that it got her suspended from school. Adele explains, “Will Young was my first proper love. I was obsessed. The Gareth Gates fans were horrible to me and I wasn't having any of it. We had a fight and I was called into the head teacher's office and sent home. It was serious."
For someone who battles with anxiety and seems so introspective, it’s hard to imagine Adele getting into a fight. I’m surprised she didn’t just write a song about it, sit in a chair and cry.
Cheryl Cole: British beauty Cheryl Cole was suspended from school twice for fighting. She eventually dropped out at the age of 16 to pursue her music career. Good thing those childhood troubles didn’t resurface when Simon Cowell bullied her off of the X-Factor.
Snoop Dogg: Yeah, I know, this one isn’t that surprising, either. But what is surprising is what he got in trouble for. Snoop went to an elementary school for gifted students, and apparently, he wanted to show off one of his gifts. He flashed his dong in the classroom and was immediately expelled.
Lily Allen: Okay, this one isn’t terribly surprising, considering that Lily Allen has a major ‘tude. Just check out her Twitter profile at any given moment. In school, Lily Allen got expelled for smoking and drinking.” Allen admits to “Doing things that I shouldn't have been doing with boys that I shouldn't have been doing at that young age. Smoking cigarettes, drinking."
Willem Dafoe: Dafoe once said: “I started being interested in girls when I was about 14, which I think is quite late. But once I got a taste that was it.”
And that “taste” got him expelled from school for making a porn. “Eventually, I was expelled from school for making a pornographic film,” Dafoe said. “I was just a young boy in Wisconsin – anything to get out of there.”
I knew Willem Dafoe was a good actor, but I had no idea he was so multifaceted.
