Curtis '50 Cent' Jackson is a man of many talents. Not only is he a Grammy nominated artist, he’s joined the likes of Al Pacino and Robert DeNiro on the big screen for one of the biggest movies of 2008. And that doesn’t even sum it up.
Last year during the 2008 Sundance Film Festival the rapper turned actor announced that him and producing partner Randall Emmett will be launching their own production company. One year later Cheetah Vision Films was born.
Hollyscoop caught up with 50 and his partner Randall at the Vitaminwater house in Park City, Utah during the 2009 Sundance Film Festival for a one-on-one interview about their latest venture. Here are some highlights from the interview:
HS: Tell us about your new production company Cheetah Vision
50: “It's exciting! We've had great progress. We finally opened our office in Los Angeles, I tied Randall down. Of course the projects are diverse, different bunch of material that I'm reading and I'm excited about. ”
HS: What will be the first project that will be released?
50: "I'm excited just for them to see the first thing. The first thing they will see from me is 'Before I Self Destruct'. It’s a film project that I wrote, produced and directed. And it will be included in my albums release."
HS: When can we expect ‘Before I Self Destruct’ to be released?
50: February or March...
HS: In regards to releasing his 4th album "Before I Self Destruct" simultaneously with the movie:
50: "Within the album packaging Before I Self Destruct is in you. Buy the CD and the DVD is in it. Also there is an option to get the deluxe version that has the life and death of Jammaster J. It's the actual documentary DVD on his life.”
HS:What movies can we expect from Cheetah Films?
“50 is very aggressive. He loves all kids of films, so we're going to do high concept big budget action movies. We're going to do thrillers, we're going to do smaller dramas that he has a real love for, so we’re all over the place. He wants to affect people in every way he can. We want to entertain. He wants to make them laugh, wants to make them cry. So we’re going to be all over the board. We just bought eight or nine scripts and we’ve been putting together all these different movies for him--some that he’ll just produce, some that he will producer and star in—it’s up to him. It’s exciting because he controls his destiny in the music business. He dominates the world that he’s been in, and now he’s starting to do the same thing in film. Which is why he started his company.
HS:In regards to Curtis’ new movie ‘13’ starring Mickey Rourke:
50:That was exciting to work with Mickey. They went back to shoot some more stuff, more people, more cast.
HS: In regards to Mickey’s Golden Globe nomination, would you want the same kind of recognition?
50: I’m happy for him and everything that’s coming for him is due.
50 also confirmed to Hollyscoop that he is working on a project called The Dance, which will be his first official film under his Cheetah banner, and that he'll star alongside Nicolas Cage in the action-drama. 50 will play a boxer who is sent to state prison.
